VLR Bucket/Excavator Safety Operator Training (BESOT) - Step 1

This webinar will cover OSHA, local laws, and regulations.
This webinar must be attended to attend the hands-on step 2 below.

VLR Bucket/Excavator Safety Operator Training (BESOT) - Step 2

In this workshop, attendees will be rotated through a series of hands-on evaluations. The backhoe evaluations can consist of any of the following:

  • Creating a trench.
  • Backfilling a trench.
  • Placement of the backhoe for digging.
  • Loading a truck and unloading a truck. (if the host agency is agreeable)

Loader evaluations will consist of:

  • Digging from a pile without spinning the tires.
  • Picking up loose material from a simulated roadway.
  • Loading a truck.
  • Leveling material on a simulated roadway.
  • Stacking material in a pile.

If time allows, a confidence skills challenge will be included at the end of the day.

Instructor: Mike Smith of Chainsaw Strategies has been operating chainsaws for over 30 years. He is also a 25-year veteran firefighter. Mike has taken extensive training in the field of chainsaw operation. His teaching style includes a healthy portion of humor and student interaction.

Topics include Deadlines, Compliance, Funding, Standards

Bring feedback and questions!

- What can assist your town in submitting upgrades?

- Have you had difficulty getting funding for projects you’d like to work on?

- Have there been issues with specific standards, if any?

- Have you had issues with repetitive losses?

 11:30 pm – 12:00 pm: Lunch (provided by RPC’s)

 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Technical Training for Road Erosion Inventories

 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: One-on-one time (optional) inquiries, feedback, technical assistance
